New Swimmer Day - Swim Assessment
Parents of New Swimmers,
The last step to complete to register your swimmer for the team is to attend "New Swimmer Day". The coaches and volunteers are super supportive of new swimmers and want them to succeed (yay!!), but with a large team we must first ensure the safety of all swimmers.
- Date: Friday, June 6th
- Time: 6:00 p.m.
- Location: Jersey Shore Senior High School Pool (enter through the gymnasium doors).
- What to bring: Suit, towel, googles (if your swimmer has some), swim cap (again, not mandatory, but if they have one and would like to wear it)
Swimmers are required to make it the length of the pool (or width of the pool if they are concerned about the deep end). Each swimmer will get a few tries if they are not successful on the first try. Older, more sure swimmers will go first, so their assessment may take all of 5 minutes and they are free to go. Younger and very new swimmers typically take a bit longer, but we are usually cleaned up and out of the pool by 7pm on New Swimmer Day.
As long as your little swimmer can make it across, no matter the stroke (lots of young ones doggie paddle the whole way), they are on the team! It is not required, but is a bonus if they can swim with their face in the water.
If you have any questions about the assessment, you can contact Coach Stacy or Coach Shelley.
Good luck and we will see you next Friday!!
Shelley and Coach Stacy
P.S. We are always looking for parent volunteers during practice to just stand at the ends of lanes and encourage swimmers! No need to know anything about swimming, as long as you can smile and cheer for swimmers who are working hard and learning, you are a perfect fit!! Let one of the coaches know if you are interested!
